If you're planning on buying yourself some wooden window blinds then one problem you definitely won't have is lack of choice. You can find many different blinds in DIY stores, superstores and on the Internet but how do you know which one to choose? In this article I'll be talking a little bit about how you can tell which blinds are the best for you.
The Importance of Quality
First of all you should make sure that you buy good quality window blinds. It is always tempting to try and buy cheap wooden blinds for obvious reasons but it is much better to go for a quality blind that you know will last a long time and provide you with the service then you need than it is to spend less on something that will have to be replaced in a shorter time. A more expensive wood is usually more resilient and rare giving you strength and a unique edge to your house.
Even so, you should remember that in most cases you won't just be buying wooden blinds for one room but for many. This means that the price can quickly add up so you should set yourself a strict budget before you start looking for blinds. This will not only help stop you overspending but will also allow you to narrow down the many options you have when it comes to buying a wooden blind. For example perhaps you don't really need that oak blind, and can settle for something more cost effective.
Types of Blinds
One of the options that you will want to consider are wooden vertical blinds. These are great if you need a room to be well lit during the day but have privacy during the night because they can easily be pulled completely back when needed. Along with wooden venetian blinds they are one of the most popular types.
Also available are thin slat wooden roman blinds. These are fantastic for adding a different look to your home. Roman blinds look best when drawn so it is good to put these in bedrooms and kitchens were you will most likely have the blinds drawn during the day.
Faux wood blinds
For even better durabilty and insulation, look into faux wood blinds. These fake wood blinds are made to give you the look of wood blinds while improving on it's weaknesses. There is a cost though and that is that faux wood blinds cost a lot more than wooden blinds.
Benefits of Wooden Blinds
Another benefit of having wooden window blinds is that they can be great insulators. If you don't have double glazing and live in a cold climate then a wooden blind will add an extra layer of heat insulation between you and the cold outside.
Wooden blinds tend to be able to last a long time because in general wood is quite durable. They are also versatile and can be used in many different situations, although you should make sure that the wood and style you choose matches the interior decor of your room.
So remember, when you start to look for new wooden blinds, take your time and do some research into the different types that are available on the Internet. This will allow you to get a good overview of your options and also how much they are likely to cost. Once you have this foundation of knowledge you can then go online or into stores and see what deals you can find.

I couldn't imagine the cost for wooden blinds, with plastic blinds being as expensive as they are. These sure do look nice though.
